Including role of Hong Kong in China's economic development
Briefs should be as short as is reasonably possible, with a maximum of two pages except in the case of textiles. A line to take on particular subjects or on defensive points should be included at the start of each brief. As MFT will be meeting the Press it would be helpful to know whether the line to take could be used for this purpose as well as talks with officials. In case of textiles we should be grateful for a contribution to speech notes from CT Division and CRE 1. Briefs should be typed on blue-crested paper in final form and should reach me on Thursday 14 August at the latest please so that we have enough time to coordinate all contributions. In the case of the textile brief we should be grateful to receive this a week before the above date if possible. We would find it most helpful to have the top copy plus 5 photocopies so that we can circulate complete sets of the country briefs to those officials who will accompany the MFT and for those who may need one leaving us with perhaps
two spares.
