TEXTILE MISSION TO HONG KONG LED BY THE MINISTER FOR TRADE

As you may know, the Minister for Trade will be leading a small mission of senior executives in the textile industry to Hong Kong between 30 August and 5 September. The aim will be to examine the scope within the Hong Kong market for increased sales of UK textile fabrics. The mission will be accompanied by a Private Secretary, an official and a press officer with full media coverage including possibly a television film team.

Four missioners have been nominated:

The core of the mission programme will be talks on textiles with officials and trade bodies and visits to garment factories, buying houses and leading fabric agents. There will also be some time spent with the Governor of Hong Kong and with members of the Hong Kong Government, so background briefing will need to cover very briefly the state of play and the line to take on'ali matters of current interest affecting Hong Kong.

4. The purpose of this minute is to seek contributions to MFT's briefing against the background that he will make on key-note speech and at least one other speech and will no doubt be interviewed by the media at various stages of the programme. We should therefore be grateful for background briefing as follows:
