onday 14 April:
on Hong Kong Island. GEC won the contract in the early 1970s for the West Kowloon area traffic control system. The Environment Secretary asked Sir Peter Baldwin for help in providing a bus priorities adviser to work in the office of the Commissioner for Transport.
In principle we are willing to assist but there are some minor
technical diffical difficulties (Mir D G Clark has the details).
(1) Meeting with Environment Secretary
and others to discuss Hong Kong transport planning. The Hong Kong officials will no doubt raise the following matters on which they are anxious to have UK assistance:-
i. Traffic Management Control. There are no points which the Minister need raise but it would be appropriate to mention the expertise of British firms.
ii.
Traffic Surveillance Control.
The same applies as in i. above.
iii. Hong Kong-Kowloon Link. There are no points to raise as the consultants (including Mott, Hay and Anderson) are not due to report for some time,
iv. Bus priorities adviser (see above under 13 April).
Establishment of road safety division (see under 6 April).
