Three men are at present held on murder charges in the
British Virgin Islands. Two have been committed for trial (probably in October) and the third is awaiting committal
hearings. Conviction for murder invokes an automatic sentence of death. Appeal procedures are available, including the possibility of appeal to the Privy Council. The exercise of a Royal Prerogative to commute a death sentence is vested in
the Governor.
