SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAN
1.
The Secretary of State and Mr Hurd today approved the draft UK Orders, on the basis of the attached analysis, except for the provisions in the Iran (Trade Sanctions) Order 1980 which would
prohibit service contracts. We now need to inform our European Community partners. I attach a draft COREU for this purpose.
2. We have informed the Department of Trade of the Secretary of State's wish to omit the provisions relating to service contracts. They have not yet had an opportunity to clear this with the Secretary of State for Trade. The draft telegram is based on the assumption that he will accept this, but this will need to be confirmed.
