PROTECTION OF TRADING INTERESTS BILL
The abovementioned Bill has completed its
passage through the House of Commons, should complete
its stages in the House of Lords by the end of February
and Royal Assent is expected some time in March.
The new Act will repeal the "Shipping Contracts and
Commercial Documents Act 1964" which was extended to
Hong Kong only (apart from Channel Islands and the Isle of
Man). The 1964 Act was passed primarily to protect
shipping companies but the new Act goes further in that
it will provide better protection to companies and
individuals in the United Kingdom against attempts
by. overseas countries to impose their domestic
legislation and regulations outside their own territory.
