The Government is administered by a Governor aided by an Executive Council of 6 members and a Legislative Council of 8 members. There has been no local Government in the Colony
since July 1973 when the Town Council's duties were taken
over by the central administration.

THE BRITISH ANTARCTIC TERRITORY
The British Antarctic Territory is administered by a High Commissioner appointed by Her Majesty The Queen. He has the
power (subject to the usual disallowance procedure) to make regulations for the peace, order, and good government of the Territory to establish courts of justice and, on Her Majesty's behalf to grant pardon and clemency. At each research station, The Station Commander is appointed by The High Commissioner as a magistrate.
