In response to your minute of 4 June, the facts and figures relating to Belize are as follows:

Internal self-government, Governor retaining responsibility for external defence, internal security, external relations and the Civil Service. General elections based on universal adult suffrage held at least every 5 years.
House of Representatives with 18 elected members; · Senate of 8 nominated by Government, opposition and Governor.
Six districts administered by a District Officer; Belize City has an elected City Council and there are 6 elected Town Boards. Administration of villages assisted by local Village Councils.
137,000 was accurate at the time of the last census in 1976; another is being taken at this time. We currently use the estimate of 140,000 which we consider more accurate.
