ST HELENA AND DEPENDENCIES

The Government of St Helena is administered by a Governor. There is a Legislative Council, consisting of the Governor, 2 ex officio members (Government Secretary and Treasurer) and 12 elected members. Five Committees of the Legislative Council are responsible for general oversight of government departments and have, in addition, a wide range of statutory and administrative functions. The Governor is advised by an Executive Council of the 2 ex officio members and the Chairmen of the Council Committees.

There are Administrators in both Tristan da Cunha and Ascension who are responsible to the Governor of St Helena. The Administrator of Tristan da Cunha is advised by an elected Island Council.

TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS

The Government is administered by a Governor, advised by an Executive Council of 4 elected Ministers and 3 officials. There is a Legislative Council consisting of a Speaker,

11 elected members, 3 appointed members and 3 official members. The Governor is generally required to act on the advice of the Executive Council but retains responsibility over matters relating to defence, external affairs, internal security including the police and the Civil Service. Responsibility for finance is reserved to an official member.
