Recruitment of Administrative and Executive Officers 1980

commitments rests heavily on an adequate supply of

Administrative and Executive Officers.

these two Classes has therefore been maintained at a high

level in 1980, the likely intakes being 45 Administrative

Officers and 186 Executive Officers. The present strengths

of the Administrative and Executive Classes are 265 and 1,170

respectively, so that this year's intakes represent increases

of 17 percent and 16 percent

9 ̊.

Recruitment of experienced officers from other

dependent territories continues.

Mr Broadley and Mr Bresnihan

from New Hebrides arrived in October. They have been

posted to Civil Service Branch and Environment Branch

respectively. Mr Turner will arrive in December. Offers

of appointment have been made to another two officers in

New Hebrides and two from Solomon Islands. During his

visit to FCO in October Deputy Secretary for the Civil

Service (2), Mr James So, discussed various aspects of

recruitment of officers retired from the Diplomatic Service.

The Branch has now formally written to Mr Morrice on this.

A trawl for secondment of UK Administrative and Diplomatic

Officers to Hong Kong has been started and interviews are

expected to take place in January.
