COLONIAL REGULATIONS

Thank you for your letter ref C22/1 of 24 October 1974 and your tel no 77 about Colonial Regulation 19.

2. I confirm that, although the present level of £1000 is un- realistic, there are some senior posts for which we wish to retuin responsibility. Instead of specifying a salary level we propose to amend Colonial Regulation 19 so that we can list for each territory the senior posts or grades which require the Secretary of State's prior approval under the provisions of this Colonial Regulation. For hontserrat we have in mind the following posts:

All Permanent Secretaries

Financial Secretary

Director of Audit (Section 42(1) of your Ord 17 of

Commissioner of Police

Attorney-General

1972 refers)

3. Please let me know if you agree or whether there are any additions to this list at Head of Department level which should be added, so that we can in due course send you a formal despatch.

Tel No 728 of 11 September 196 suggesting that among other things the post of i puty Commandant of rolice should be excluded from the list. However, after 1 September 1979 when this post will no longer be a pritish appointment we consider that the post of Deputy Commandant of folice (Police hobile Unit) should, as an Anglo/French appointment, be referred. I should be grateful if you would acknowledge your agreement to this.
