Mr Simpson said that was exactly the area in which he
thought Amnesty International could be most useful.
5. Mr Luard suggested and Mr Simpson agreed that it should be left to Amnesty and individual desk officers in the FCO
to develop contacts. Mr Smith offered his and Mr Callan's
services as a central enquiry point should Amnesty require help in identifying where responsibility for a particular country lay.
6. It was also agreed that it would be valuable for Mr Callan and Mr Smith, and possibly other officials, to visit Amnesty International. Mr Simpson would pursue the idea with the FCO
in due course.
