TAX INSPECTORS

Current situation

30.

Tax Inspectors resumed normal duties on 15.1.79, pending further job inspections carried out by the Pay and Structure Division, and the subsequent production of a report by mid-March 1979. Based on a comprehensive programme of job inspections, which was drawn up by the Tax Inspectors' Unit and endorsed by the Department, a large variety of jobs representative of the normal duties of the Tax Inspectors were inspected during January and February 1979. A detailed report was completed and sent to the Department on 12.3.79. This report reaffirms the previous findings that there has not been a significant increase in the level of responsibilities and in the complexity of duties of the majority of the members of the Tax Inspector II rank. The report gives full description of the various aspects of work performed by the Tax Inspectors II, together with the special features attached to their work and recommends, as repeatedly stressed in previous meetings with the Tax Inspectors' Unit, that the staff request for a pay revision be 'referred to the Commission'.

31.

It is expected the Tax Inspectors' Unit may not be satisfied with the findings and may resume industrial action to press for their demands.
