the proposed interim allowance is awarded because of price rise and inflation and has nothing to do with the adjustment which the Standing Commission will recommend for the individual grades in future;

DUS wrote to SCS on 8.3.79 following up the above meeting expressing his grave concern about the possibility of the essential services being disrupted if the dispute boiled up and resulted in industrial action and enquiring about the possibility of making an interim award (say 5 of basic pay) to the MOD 1 staff in anticipation of the results of this year's Pay Trend Survey. It is unlikely that: government will agree to the request. A reply will be given to the staff in a few days' time.

requested that -

5 posts of SMR be created, each to head a unit in the Meter Reading Section;
