memorandum is read by ALL OFFICERS who are eligible for the pay increase announced in Civil Service Branch Circular No. 18/79 and who are contributors to the WIDOWS AND ORPHANS PENSION SCHEME, Copies should be sent by air mail to contributors who are not in Hong Kong. IS CIRCULAR MEMORANDUM DOES NOT APPLY TO OFFICERS WHO ARE CONTRIBUTORS TO THE WIDOWS' AND CHILDREN'S TENSIONS SCHEME,

This is the separate circular mentioned in paragraph 12 of the Civil Service Franch Circular No. 18/79 dated 19th July, 1979 and it deals with the retrospective effect of the pay increases on the options exercisable by officers under Subsections (1) and (5) of Section 32 of the Widowe and Orphans Pension Ordinance, Cap. 94. The following two categories of officers contributing to the Widows and Orphans Pension Scheme are particularly advised to read this circular carefully

(A) Officers on 100% pensionability

if their revised salary plus expatriation pay (if any) has since 1st April 1979 exceeded $3,125 a month; and

(B) Officers on 90% pensionability

if 90% of their revised salary plus 50% expatriation pay (if any) has since 1st April 1979 exceeded $5,125 a month.

These officers may

(a) as a result of the retrospective increase in their salary now have passed over the salary point at which they first become liable to contribute at a rate in excess of $125 a month during the period 1st April to 19th July, 1979; or

(b)

as a result of the retrospective increase in their salary pass over the salary point at which they first become liable to contribute at a rate in excess of $125 a month during the period 20th to 31st July 1979; or

(c) since 1st April 1979 have exercised an option or options

based on their pre-revision. salary rate to limit their contributions to

(1)

$125 a month from the date they became liable to contribute in excess of that rate (1.0, the option undor Subsection (1)); or

/(ii).
