MANAGEMENT IN CONFIDENCE

RECORDING STAFF ABSENCES

48. Departments should arrange for management to establish which staff are in attendance on the day of a strike; and if they are away from their usual places of work, to know whether they are on duty elsewhere, are sick, or have other good reasons for their absence. Staff who have been away during such a period should be called on to establish that they were not taking part in industrial action, for example by producing a medical certificate.

REPORTS

49. The larger departments were asked to report on the lines suggested in the CSD management-in-confidence Circular dated 14 September 1973. Other departments who did not receive that Circular are asked to let CSD have reports of any unusual or disturbing occurrences (eg unlawful picketing). Such reports may be made by telephone to 01-839 7733 extension 85.
