MP'S ABOUT EXTRA COMPENSATION FOR SAI LAU KOK BUILDINGS WHICH ARE

DUE TO BE CLEARED BY MID-AUGUST. THESE BUILDINGS STAND ON THE SITE OF THE DEPOT AND TAIL TRACKS IN NORTH TSUEN WAN.

2. THE SEVEN BUILDINGS WHICH CONTAIN DOMESTIC FLATS, SHOP'S AND

WORKSHOPS HAVE BEEN RESUMED AND REVERTED TO THE CROWN IN

NOVEMBER 1978. THE COMPENSATION PAYABLE IS THEREFORE BASED ON

THIS DATE. SINCE THEN THERE HAVE, AS YOU KNOW, BEEN RISES IN THE PROPERTY MARKET AND THE MAIN COMPLAINT OF THE OWNERS IS THAT THIS

HAD MADE THE COMPENSATION OFFERED TO THEM INADEQUATE.

3. THE SAI LAU KOK OWNERS PROVISIONAL COMMITTEE FOR PROPERTY PROTECTION REPRESENTS ONLY A SMALL NUMBER OF THOSE INVOLVED IN THE CLEARANCE AS YOU WILL SEE FROM THE FOLLOWING SUMMARY OF THE

POSITION :

A. (1) ON THE DOMESTIC SIDE 258 OUT OF 339 OWNERS HAVE ACCEPTED THE COMPENSATION OFFERED. (FULL MARKET VALUE AT THE DATE OF REVERSION PLUS DISTURBANCE ALLOWANCE PLUS EITHER PUBLIC HOUSING OR

A CAPITALISED INTEREST-FREE LOAN TO HELP BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN COMPENSATION AND THE COST OF BUYING A NEW FLAT). THE REMAINDER

CAN BE DIVIDED INTO TWO GROUPS, A MILITANT GROUP OF 19 AND THE

REMAINDER WHO ARE WAITING TO SEE IF MILITANCY WILL OBTAIN

BETTER TERMS. IT IS THIS GROUP OF 19 WHO HAVE SENT THEIR REPRES-

ENTATIVES TO LONDON.

(11) ALL TENANTS AND OWNER/OCCUPIERS WHO SO WISH HAVE BEEN

OFFERED PUBLIC HOUSING. SOME HAVE ALREADY MOVED AND IT IS EXPECTED
