Dear Mr. Ford,
Hongkong is now witnessing shameful event which is arousing massive discontent among its people. The boat people, livingī under miserable conditions, went to petition to the Governor requesting to be resettled on land. After a series of petitions for over a year, they still did not get a favourable reply.from the Government.
On the 7th January, 1979 a group of bout people went to petition to the Governor again. This time, on their way to the petition place, they were stopped by the police, arrested inside the coach, and charged with unlawful assembly. Included are 10 children, 66 adults, and other supporters. This brutal action immediately aroused the outcry to cancell all charges and also the demand for immediate renousing of the boat people.
