Premier Hua's Visit

Premier Hua will visit Britain from 28 October to
3 November, after visits to France and West Germany and before visiting Italy. His programme (currently under discussion with the Chinese) will include lunch with The Queen, two sessions of official talks with the Prime Minister, an exchange of dinners, other prestige items, and industrial and cultural visits to Manchester, Derby and Oxford..

At official talks, Premier Hua's natural inclination
is to state known Chinese positions at some length. We have told the Chinese at official level that the Prime Minister would prefer, and will expect, a free, informal exchange of views.

Talks between China and the Soviet Union are due to start in Moscow in mid September. No dramatic rapprochement is expected. But both sides could profit from a modest improvement in state to state relations (including trade).
