However, our records show that 11,578 of them have not done so and this suggests that they are no longer living in Hong Kong. The total number of legal arrivals holding CPG passports without visas for Hong Kong since 1January 1972 is 28,298 of whom 19,636 arrived since 1 August 1975 without visas for their final destination and are presumed to have remained here.. (No breakdown of figures of CPG passport holders is available before August 1975).

Persons who enter legally from China and who are landed for a limited period, ie Overseas Chinese and Non- Kwangtung residents, must obtain Declarations of Identity and re-entry visas for Hong Kong if they wish to travel. During December the traffic in such persons was as follows:-

Since 1 January 1974, 111, 273 holders of Declarations of Identity departed for China and $8, 208 returned to Hong Kong. The great majority had returned there to visit their families. The similar figures for macao and elsewhere are available only since 1 April 1975, these are:-

During December 1978, 2, 303 illegal immigrants were arrested compared with 2.253 Tast month. 1,160 of them were former residents of N. Vietnam. This is the highest arrest figure since repatriation commenced on 30 November 1974. The following figures include the North Vietnam cases, with the North Vietnam component shown separately in brackets.
