1. You will wish to see folio 52 which gives the monthly totals for legal and illegal immigration from China and Macau for February.

2. The total for the month is some 20,000 (assuming four illegals get through for every one caught but not including former residents of Vietnam who came by sea via China).
3. The daily average number of legal immigrants has crept up again and the total number of illegals arrested is the highest ever, all of which is not very encouraging particularly bearing in mind that spring is traditionally a time when illegal immigration is at its lowest.
4. I do not think we need be concerned about the numbers from Macau at the moment.

We have of course already seen these figures. I wonder whether the ratio of 4:1 is still correct: other figures we have bees seen Inggest that the ratio
may now only be 2:1, though of couse it is impossible to be me how great
a time lag there is between arrival and sofacing.
