REVISED UK IMMIGRATION RULES

On 13th November 1979, after noting the contents of an

information paper on the revised UK Immigration Rules, Members

requested a note on the number of Hong Kong British Passport holders who were refused admission to Britain on arrival.

In the year ending 30th September 1979, 36,000 Hong Kong British Passport holders were admitted to Britain. Approximately 50% of these held entry certificates. In the same period 103 Hong Kong British Passport holders were refused entry on arrival. 97 of these did not have entry certificates.

The reasons for refusal of admission were as follows:

Entry certificate obtained by false

representations or concealment

of material facts

Host no longer in UK

Seeking employment

(b) Without entry certificate

Doubtful visitor

During the same period, the Director of Immigration, Hong Kong, refused 128 applications for UK entry certificates, from persons who failed to satisfy the requirements of the UK Immigration Rules.
