The People Concerned

12. Those who become British Overseas Citizens on the

coming into force of the Act will fall into two main groups

as described below.

13. The first group will consist of those people who derive their citizenship from their own or their father's connection (ie birth, naturalisation or registration) with an existing

dependency.

14. The second group may be sub-divided as follows:

There are some who acquire,

some

a) those who owe their citizenship to a remote connection.

with the United Kingdom.

or are descended from those who acquired, a connection

because the United Kingdom used to exercise extra-

territorial jurisdiction in/foreign countries eg Egypt

and Turkey. Others are of remote United Kingdom origin,

being of the third or later generation born outside the

United Kingdom who have obtained citizenship by Consular

registration. They include members of the British

Communities in foreign countries in South America and

elsewhere; they also include members of former German

royal families distantly related to the Queen who have

carefully kept up their British connections (some tentative enquiries have been made on their behalf).
