6. The previous paragraphs were drafted before the vote of confidence in the House of Commons on 28 March. The Home Office advise me that if the present government are returned to power after the General Election, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office view on this matter will be required soon. If there is a change of government more time will be available, but it is, nevertheless, probable that our opinion will be required before very long.
