33. The Deputy High Commissioner, summing up, said that he hoped the momentum obtained in terms of resettlement, including Orderly Departures from Viet Nam, would be maintained and even increased. Although the caseload might show signs of diminishing, there was no room for complacency. He asked for even closer co-operation between resettlement countries and UNHCR, both at Headquarters and in the field, and said that meetings of the kind held today would be repeated in the future. UNHCR was interested to hear of all developments and all problems related to the resettlement operation, and asked for candid suggestions or criticisms of its own role in order that the work might be done more efficiently in the future. Mr. de Haan asked countries to continue and increase their commitments to help solve the problems of refugees and displaced persons in South-East Asia.

The meeting rose at 13.15 hours.
