Draft Resolution on Item 83: (Report of the Secretary-General on the
Geneva Meeting)
The General Assembly
Having considered the report of the Secretary-General on the
Meeting on Refugees and Displaced Persons in Southeast Asia, held
in Geneva, on 20-21 July 1979, under his chairmanship, and
having heard his statement,
Taking note of the progress mentioned in the Secretary-
General's report, indicating a decrease in the number of boat
cases arriving in other Southeast Asian countries since August
1979.
Expressing its deep concern with the serious plight of
the refugees and displaced persons, both land and boat cases,
in Southeast Asia, and the severe burden that the problem
causes för many countries, particularly the other developing
countries of Southeast Asia,
Noting that further action is required to deal adequately
with the land cases, whose number remain, substantially higher
than the boat cases,
Gravely concerned with the current exodus of over 200,000
Kampucheans and the worsening condition of hunger, malnutrition
and disease facing them, and their urgent need of prompt and
effective international assistance,
Noting the results of the Pledging Conference for
Emergency Humanitarian Relief to the People of Kampuchea, held
at the United Nations Headquarters, on 6 November 1979, under the
