örr,

VIETNAMESE REFUGEES IN HONG KONG:

1.

NETHERLANDS RESETTLEMENT

You asked in your letter of 12 November to Peter Boon whether we could obtain detailed figures from the Netherlands Government of refugees taken from all places of first asylum in the South-East Asian region, showing in each case the number who were originally rescued at sea by Dutch ships.

2. The latest total figures for refugees taken to the Netherlands, by place of first asylum, are as follows:

Malaysia 752 Thailand 100 Vietnam 260

The figure for refugees rescued at sea by Dutch ships stands at 944. All those rescued at sea and taken to the Netherlands are unfortunately listed separately from those already in a place of first asylum, and it is not therefore possible to provide the breakdown you ask for.
