conference for the announcement of voluntary contributions to the
programme of the United Nations Relief and Works Agen for Palestine
Refugees in the Near East will be communicated to Governments at a
later date.
In resolution 1729 (XVI), the General Assembly also requested the
Secretary-General to bring each year to the attention of the members
the requirements of the extra-Ludgetary programmes for the following
year and to seek their support for these programmes. Accordingly, the
Secretary-General is enclosing information on the financial requirements
of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The Secretary-General hopes that, in view of the universal nature
of the problems facing the High Commissioner, Governments will give
immediate consideration to the question of their contributions so that
as many delegations as possible will be in a position to announce their pledges to the 1980 programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees at the meeting of the ad hoc Committee to be held on
16 November 1979 at 10:30 a.m.
