This represents 21.23% of the total number in UNHCR camps and Government-run open camps.

(b) Their average daily wage is $25. In general, female

workers seem to be in greater demand than male workers and their average daily wage is $30, but a few able- bodied males working in the construction industry can make as much as $60 per day.

The ethnic Vietnamese, who cannot speak Cantonese, find it extremely difficulte to obtain employment in Hong Kong.

BOAT ARRIVALS IN HONG KONG SINCE THE GENEVA CONFERENCE

Since 20-21 July 1979, 3,558 refugees have arrived on 43 boats. There is no evidence of official involvement in their departure arrangements nor of departure fees being levied since the case of a bont which left on 2nd July. Some of these refugees (400) may have spent some time in China; these are being kept segregated so that their cases can be fully investigated with Chinese authorities. commentary is at Enclosure IV.
