refugees, will be such matters as language training, counselling, social service provision and some health matters, employment prospects and the contribution that can be made by the voluntary sector generally in the areas where refugees settle. For all these matters, and in particular the provision of housing, local authorities will need a great deal of information to enable them to arrive at the most satisfactory decisions. Adequate machinery will also be needed for the decisions reached by local authorities to be given effect as quickly as possible.
To help identify what arrangements are needed to give local authorities the greatest possible help we are proposing that there should be an early meeting, at which the local authority associations, the GLC, government departments principally concerned and the voluntary organisations involved should be represented for the purpose of identifying those areas where arrangements for adequate exchange of information and co-ordination will be desirable and what machinery can most usefully be adopted to these ends.
The purpose of this letter therefore is to invite you to attend this meeting. We shall be in touch with you in a few days about a convenient time and place.
I am writing similarly to the other local authority associations,
We are also proposing to the local authorities and local education authorities with reception centres in their areas that we should have separate discussions about the additional costs incurred by them. I am writing separately to you about this,
Your sincerely,
eftimenen
