The special statement on Indo-Chinese refugees issued in
Tokyo on 28 June commits governments significantly to increase
their contributions to Indo-Chinese relief and resettlement, by
making more funds available and by admitting more people, while
taking into account the existing social and economic circumstances
in each of their countries.
WILL WE CUT OFF AID TO VIETNAM?
10. As the Prime Minister said on 3 July, we shall certainly not
be giving more aid.
WILL WE TERMINATE THE CONTRACT TO ASSIST THE CONSTRUCTION OF FOUR SHIPS FOR VIETNAM BY AID FUNDS?

12. The Malaysian Prime Minister has made clear that while his
Government will adopt firm measures towards further arrivals by
boat people, the measures will not include shooting. When it was
reported that there might be shooting, the Government appealed
strongly to the Malaysians to meet the crisis humanely.

13. My Hon Friend, the Minister of State for Foreign and Common-
wealth Affairs conveyed to the Thai Ambassador on 13 June an
expression of the Government's concern at reports that the Thai
Government was forcibly repatriating refugees to Cambodia.
Thousands of refugees were sent back, but the repatriation has
stopped.
