I submit a draft Answer, and Answers to Supplementaries in response to the attached Private Notice Question by Mr Peter Shore which is wanted this afternoon. It may not be possible to
include reference to the Prime Minister's second letter to Dr Waldheim
to which reference is made in brackets.
2.
The draft Answer takes account of the latest information about
the statement by the Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Hussein Onn, about his country's policy towards Vietnamese refugees. It also
informs the House of the recent talks with the Governor of Hong Kong.
3. Among the draft Supplementaries, I have included a possible
whether question about/the United Kingdom will accept more refugees. The answer, which the Home Office have provided, is long. The Lord Privy Seal may wish to indicate to any enquirer, that the matter lies within the competence of the Home Secretary, I have therefore
included the Home Office anser as a Background Note.
