1. I attach first drafts of the two "objectives" papers to be annexed to the letter about briefing for Mrs Thatcher's visit to Canberra which the PUS will wish to send to Sir John Hunt.
(I am consulting Canberra on the "probable Australian objectives" section.)
2. I am copying this minute and enclosures widely in order to give heads of potentially interested departments a chance to comment before these drafts are submitted to the PUS. Any comments should please reach Mr Noble (4296) or Mr Upton (4956) by 12 noon tomorrow, 6 June. (Nil returns are not required.)
3. Mr Hime has already minuted separately to Assistants in departments concerned attaching a list of briefs which SPD consider will be needed, and inviting comments.
