THE FIRST INDOCHINESE REFUGEES FROM THE 'SIBONGA'

WILL LEAVE HONG KONG FOR LONDON ON MONDAY, 11 JUNE

The first 300 Indochinese refugees rescued at sea recently by the British ship "Sibonga will leave Hong Kong by air for London at the beginning of next week. The air- flights have been arranged by the Intergovernmental Committee for European ligration (ICEM) at the request of the Hong Kong Government.

On 1, K and f☎ June, the scheduled British Airways flight from Hong Kong arriving at Heathrow Airport at 03:30 hrs will have on board a group of approximately 100 Indochinese refugees. Air transport for the remaining 700 refugees from the 'Sibonga" will be organized by ICE" during the following days in accordance with instructions awaited from the British Government and in liaison with the British Council for Aid to "Refugees, the organization responsible for reception in the

United Kingdom. The flight schedule will be announced as soon as possible. The Office of the .N. High Commissioner for Refugees will provide international funds to finance the trans- portation of these refugees.

Since 1975 145,000 Indochinese refugees have been moved by ICE1 to 35 countries of resettlement mainly the United States and France. This year 30,000 Indochinese have already left countries of first asylum in Southeast Asia under ICEM auspices, of whom some 3,000 from Hong Kong.
