PROTEST BY THE IMMI CHAİNTION

CONTROL ASSOCIATION

1. I received a visit on 5 June from a delegation led by Mrs Joy Page of the Immigration Control Association, protesting at the Government's proposal to allow the refugees from the Sibonga to come to Britain. Mrs Page and her gang were a nasty racist lot, who, I hope, represent only a small minority of British opinion. They left with me the attached piece of paper, protesting at the BBC World Service's reports on the reaction in this country to the Sibonga case. I did not see much point in arguing with them, apart from trying to get them to see the difference between the Government's immigration policy (on which I was not qualified to comment) and its policy towards the immediate problem of the Vietnamese refugees. I fear that we shall hear more of Mrs Page (on this occasion she told the reception desk that her delegation included the Dowager Lady Birdwood (who she claims sympathises with her Association's views) and she may use this device again to gain access to senior people in the Office
