I must apologize for the fact that sub-paragraph (ii) of my letter of 29 May, recording the decisions reached at the Ministerial meeting called by the Prime Minister on that day to discuss the problem of Vietnamese refugees, failed to make it clear that "the vessels Herring Bank and Whalebone" were imaginary examples of the kind of problem which might face the Government after that posed by the MV Roach Bank, rather than actual ships. I trust that this lack of clarity, resulting from undue compression, has not involved Departments in too much unnecessary research!
I am sending copies of this letter to Tony Butler (Home Office), Michael Richardson (Lord Privy Seal's Office), Bill Beckett (Law Officers' Department), Tom Harris (Department of Trade) and Martin Vile (Cabinet Office).
Yours wer
