A former Ockenden student, Tashi Topgyal, now administrator in Ladakh and his wife, Chairman of the local Women's Council, wer London for a few weeks.
It was agreed to try and arrange an informal meeting of those interested in Tibetan refugees.
This meeting was subsequently arranged for the afternoon of Saturday May 12th, at Ockenden Venture, Quartermaine, Farnham Lane, Haslemere, Surrey.)
At this point the Chairman of SCOR, Sir Leslie Kirkley, joined the meeting for two items:-
d) Approach to Government on Indo-Chinese Refugees
This had been brought to the F & GP Committee which had referred it to the Asia Committee for discussion:- It was felt that the problem of Indo-Chinese refugees in South East Asia and in the United Kindom should be looked at as a whole and was a policy matter affecting all agencies.
Although it was decided that HMG should not at this stage be urged to extend its quota of 1500 boat people over the next 9 to 12 months in addition to the family reunion programme, it was agreed to look at this matter again later with a view to discussing long- term action.

Associations in the UK for Refugees from Indo-China
Sir Leslie referred to recent talk with Mr. Patrick Wall, M.P., Chairman of the British Association for Vietnamese Refugees which was formed partly of MPs and partly of representatives of some voluntary agencies. Care had been taken to form two groups - one for political and one for humanitarian aspects. It seemed that there was overlapping with the work of SCOR and some of its agencies. further talks after the election.
