UNHCR headquarters in Geneva have confirmed to the UK Mission that they will pay the airfares of the "Roachbank" refugees from Taiwan to the UK "on the same basis as for the Wellpark refugees". I asked our Mission whether this would include the cost of chartering aircraft but they had not gone into such details with the UNHCR. I think therefore that if Icem can be persuaded of the need for a charter and are willing to arrange it then the UNHCR will pay.

UKMis Geneva, as I explained to you, have also just heard from the US Ambassador that the US have got over their budgetary difficulties and are to resume taking 7,000 refugees a month
from this month.
