INDO-CHINA REFUGEES: OTHER GOVERNMENTS' COMMITMENTS IN RESPECT OF SHIPPING
1.
You asked yesterday for details of what commitments other governments had entered into in respect of responsibility for refugees rescued at sea by their ships. The UNHCR have informed us (though they say the list is not definitive) that the governments of the following countries, apart from the British government, have accepted open-ended commitments to receive refugees rescued by their own registered vessels when such refugees are acceptable by other countries. The governments concerned are:
FRG, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, USA, Sweden, Greece.
