The Preparatory Committee on the International Development Strategy meet in New York in June to continue work on drafting the Strategy (for adoption at a Special Session of the General Assembly in 1980).

ECOSOC concludes its Spring Session, mainly devoted to social issues, in New York this week. Our chief concern is the vote on membership of the Commission for Human Rights: we have lobbied hard to secure re-election, having been defeated last year for the first time.
8 The summer session (Geneva, 4 July to 3 August), which is mainly devoted to economic issues, could merit a ministerial visit in the opening stages.
