CONTRIBUTIONS TO UNHCR PROGRAMMES

In response to the High Commissioner's Appeal for the early payment of contributions to UNHCR's 1979 General Programme, the Government of Japan paid an amount of $ 11.6 million on 27 April. These funds, which had been pledged at the beginning of the year, are earmarked mainly for assistance to Indo-Chinese refugees and displaced persons in South East Asia:
The Governments of Canada has pledged $ 603,500 towards UNHCR programmes for Indo-Chinese refugees and displaced persons.

The Government of Denmark and the Netherlands have each pledged $ 50,000 towards the financing of the Pan-African Conference en Refugee Problems in Africa. The European Economic Commission has alsɔ decided to contribute $.40,000 for this. Conference.
The Dutch voluntary agency "The Netherlands Refugee Committee'. pledged $ 753,000 for refugees in Thailand and $ 757,000 for assistance to refugees and returnees in Bangladesh and Burma.
During a visit to UNHCR Headquarters, the Secretary-General of the Yugoslav voluntary agency, the International Fund 'Hungry Child' announced a' donation of 46 tons of foodstuffs and two ambulances for programme s in Africa and the Middle East.
