The arrival of 'boat people' from Viet Nam in South East Asian countries has again increased. The number of arrivals in the first two weeks of April (10,337) was higher than that for the whole month of March (10,309).
The average monthly arrival of Indo-Chinese refugees by land into Thailand during the last six months has been some 5,300. However, in recent weeks, several] thousand Kampucheans have crossed the border. UNHCR is in close touch with the Government of Thailand in r gar i to these persons.
The rate of departures of Indo-Chinese refugees from South East Asia for countries of permanent settleme it almost doubled during the first quarter of this year (average monthly figure: ,105) as compared to the last quarter of 1973 (average monthly figure: 4,2,4,

By the end of last month some 352,000 Indo-Chinese refugees had arrived overland or by boat in South East Asian countries of first asylum since 1975. Over 134,000 of them have been resettled elsewhere. This leaves 218,000 persons awaiting durable solutions.
REFUGEE DEVELOPMENTS IN AFRICA
UNHCR together with the governments concerned is assessing the conditions and needs of several thousand new arrivals from Uganda who have crossed into Sudan, Keny: Zaire and other neighbouring countries. At the same time provision is being made for the possibility of the repatriation of earlier groups of Ugandan refugees.
UNHCR has allocated over $100,000 for medical care and other assistance to Zimbabwean refugees in Zambia following the recent bombings by the Rhodesian air force.
A UNHCR education counsellor accompanied a Nigerian mission assigned to select southern African refugee students for placement in Nigerian educational institutions. The team visited Botswana, Mozambique and Zaire. REPATRIATION FROM BANGLADESH TO BURMA
In the continuing repatriation movement from Bangladesh to Burma over 126,000 persons had returned to their homes in the State of Arakan as of 22 April 1979.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO UNHCR PROGRAMMES
The Government of the Netherlands has pledged an additional contribution of $3,000,000 earmarked as follows: 1,750,000 for Indo-Chinese refugees and displaced persons, $750,000 for southern African refugees and 500,000 for refugees and returnees in Bangladesh and Burma.
The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany delivered 1.3 tons of medicaments worth 63,000 for Angolans in Zaire.
The German non-governmental organisations Evangelisch, rche and Brot für die Welt have each pledged $ 125,000 for Indo-Chinese refugees.
