(over 16,000 at the latest count). Our Embassy was told this would be "extremely difficult; but the Japanese do appear to be looking into the possibility of taking more refugees on a permanent basis. It would be very helpful if the PUS could tackle them again on Hong Kong's behalf (the Embassy should advise on the present Japanese attitude).
