I enclose a copy of a self-explanatory letter which I
have received from the Indonesian Ambassador and a copy
of my reply.

If the limited conference proposed in the final paragraph
of Saleh's letter under reference comes off, it would be
most helpful if you could spare a member of your staff to
attend. We expect to give the proposal for an island
processing centre our support, however limited that may
be, provided the UN High Commissioner for Refugees decides
it is indeed viable (he expects to undertake a brief
feasibility study of the proposal). If I may, I shall
arrange for some briefing to be sent to you within the
next few days on the assumption you can spare a body.
I doubt the meeting will last more than a couple of days
at the most.
