Mr McNamara, Deputy UNHCR Representative in London, telephoned this afternoon to tell me that Lord Elton was proposing to initiate a debate in the House of Lords on the Indo-China refugee problem. He had called Mr McNamara to ask him to attend a meeting Lord Elton would be convening next Monday of British voluntary agencies to discuss the refugee problem. Lord Elton had asked Mr McNamara to bring with him various statistics and information about the policies of other governments towards refugees.
2. I thanked Mr McNamara for letting me know and asked him if he would mind giving me a duplicate copy of the information he will provide for Lord Elton. He agreed.
