The draft reply should reach the Parliamentary Unit through your Under-Secretary by

NOEN ON TUESDAY 13 FEBRUARY 1979.

Mr Jack Ashley (Stoke on Trent South): To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what discussions he has had with the Government of Hong Kong about increasing the rule of resettlement of refugees who are temporarily given sanctuary there.

A.

I maintain close and constant contact with the Governor

of Hong Kong on this matter. At his request, the

Government have made approaches to potential recipient

countries to urge them to accept more refugees from

among those in Hong Kong who are awaiting permanent

resettlement elsewhere.
