Harrier Aircraft (Sales to China)

23. Mr. Adley asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what political and diplomatic criteria he is considering concerning the sale of Harriers to China; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Owen: I would refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply I gave earlier today to my hon. Friend the Member for Putney (Mr. Jenkins). We are considering the sale of Harriers in the context of the balanced relationship which we seek with China.

China (British Citizens)

26. Mr. Johnson Smith asked the Sec- retary of State for Foreign and Common- wealth Affairs if he will make representa- tions to the Government of the People's Republic of China concerning compensa- tion for British citizens who lost propery and other assets as a result of the revolu- tion in that country.

Mr. Luard : My right hon. Friend men- tioned the Government's continuing con- cern about this to the Chinese Foreign Minister when he visited Britain last October. We shall continue to work for a settlement of the problem.

Hong Kong (Vietnamese Refugees) 27. Sir Nigel Fisher asked the Secre- tary of State for Foreign and Common- wealth Affairs if he will state his criteria for the acceptance or rejection of refugees from Vietnam who seek entry into Hong Kong.

Terrorist Incidents (Treatment of Arrested Persons)

Smallpox (Birmingham)

Mr. Lee asked the Secretary of Stat for Social Services if he will make further statement on the Birmingh: smallpox outbreak, in the light of th publication of the contents of the repor of the Shooter committee of inquiry.

Mr. Ennals: I hope to make a state ment shortly.

Welsh-speaking Persons

Mr. Wigley asked the Secretary State for Social Services if he will tak steps to include in the 1981 census question seeking to establish the numbe of Welsh-speaking persons resident England, Scotland and Northern Ireland

Mr. Moyle: After careful considera tion it was decided that in the 1981 censu the question on speaking Welsh should b put only in Wales; elsewhere, it woul apply to only a small minority, althoug it would need to appear on every censu form.

Mobility Allowance

Mr. Ashley asked the Secretary State for Social Services when he intend to extend the mobility allowance children aged two to five years.

Mr. Alfred Morris: This is one of th recommendations put forward by th Royal Commission on Civil Liability an Compensation for Personal Injury, whos report is still being considered by th Government. An announcement will made as soon as possible.

Radiation Workers (National Register)

Mr. Hooley asked the Secretary State for Social Services what steps ai being taken to include industrial worke using X-ray or gamma ray equipment the national register of radiation worke held by the National Radiological Pro tection Board.
