Period of Maternity leave

Conditions for leave entitlement

10 weeks

Hong Kong

(at least 4 weeks but not more than 6 weeks after delivery)

All female officers on regular payroll are entitled to maternity leave. They must first take any casual or vacation leave due to them.

(a) Tecale officers with at least

12 months service:

1⁄2 pay for balance of leave

(b) Female officers with less

than 12 months service:

no pay

Up to 6 months (no pay). Any further extension requires approval of the Secretary for the Civil Service.

18 weeks

United Kingdom

(at least 11 weeks before the

expected week of confinement)

All female officers on regular payroll are entitled to maternity leave. That period of paid maternity leave exceed- ing 6 weeks will reckon against normal sick leave entitlement.

(a) Female officers with at

least 12 months continuous service prior to the 11th week before the expected week of confinement: 3 months full pay

(minus National Insurance

maternity allowance, dependants' allowances and sickness benefit)

(b) Female officers with less

than one year continuous service prior to the 11th week before the expected week of confinement but with more than two years total service:

6 weeks full pay (minus National Insurance

maternity allowance, dependants' allowances and sickness benefit)

(c) Female officers with less

than one year continuous service prior to the 11th week before the expected week of confinement but with less than two years total service:

no pay.

Leave without pay may be

granted at the discretion of

the employing authority or

granted as sick leave.
