Although the eventual package to be recommended by the

Working Group, if accepted by the Government, would theoretically

apply only to the private sector, the Government as the largest

single employer would be expected to improve the maternity benefits

of its female staff to a comparable level. Recommendations by the

Working Group would therefore have implications for the Civil Service. For the sake of completeness of this Report, public sector practices in Hong Kong compared with those in the United Fingdom are summarised App. 7 at Appendix 7. Suffice it to say at this stage that female civil

servants in the United Kingdon enjoy considerably greater naternity benefits than teir counterparts in Hong Kong.
