Explanatory Note

3

These regulations, made under the Employment

Ordinance, prohibit the employment of children except

in certain circumstances and subject to certain

conditions.

In these regulations, "child" (which is

defined in the Ordinance) will, up to 31 August 1980,

mean a person under 14 years and after that date a

person under 15 years of age.

The provisions of the Ordinance relating

to the substitution of other days for appointed rest

days; the employer requiring his employee to work on

his rest days; and the employee consenting to work on

his rest days, are disapplied, and the regulations do

not apply to registered apprentices (regulation 3).
